Condition of CNIC copy for SIM correction withdrawn

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday withdrew the condition of providing CNIC copy to the Customer Services Centres (CSCs) to facilitate subscribers seeking correction in their SIM data, Presently, extensive monitoring of the ‘SIM Information System – 668’ is under way after its successful deployment throughout the country.

To overcome difficulties of consumers from far-flung areas to approach the Customer Services Centres (CSCs), designated franchisees of each mobile company have been permitted to only receive the complaints pertaining to ‘668’ and forward the same to concerned company for correction/deletion and regularisation of SIM data, as the case may be.

The PTA said in a statement that consumers were now required to fill the undertaking form and they had to show their original CNIC to the representative of CSC/franchisee.

The irregular SIMs registered against complainant’s CNIC would then be immediately removed from his/her name.

Furthermore, to facilitate mobile companies to cope with the rush at Customers Services Centers/franchisees and to resolve the complaints pertaining to the SIM Information System – 668, an optional permission to mobile operators was being given to allow online facility to correct the customers’ antecedents and get the SIMs registered in their names through the procedure of ‘Activation of SIMs after verification 789’ by calling the helpline of respective mobile company.

Our Correspondent from Attock adds: District Police Officer (DPO) Fakhar Sultan Raja has directed all the sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and station house officers (SHOs) to launch crackdown on the sale of illegal SIMs.

According to a press release issued by the District Police Headquarter here on Friday, the DPO directed the police to conduct surprise inspections at the shops selling mobile phone SIMs.

The police have been asked to check record of the sale of SIMs and ascertain whether CNICs of the subscribers had been received. The DPO ordered strict action against any dealer or shopkeeper not following the rules set by the government.
